58th MECA Annual Meeting
MECA annual meeting zeroes in on changes
We are excited to invite our Montana electric cooperative family to MECA's 58th annual meeting, Oct. 7-9, at the Heritage Inn, Great Falls.
The theme of this year's annual meeting is "Powering Forward into A New Decade." Key segments of the annual meeting will build on this theme. On Wednesday, Oct. 9, three nationally recognized co-op speakers will focus on new and coming changes in the fields of communications, safety and technology. They will be followed by our annual meeting's keynote speaker, Scott Corwin, new executive director of the Northwest Public Power Association. Mr. Corwin will look at the public-policy changes needed or sought by others as a result of the changes occurring in communications, safety and technology.
Also this year, we'll hear from two statewide association electric co-op leaders from other states concerning various challenges and innovations as well as legislative and regulatory battles they're facing. Panelists for the popular "Beyond Montana's Borders: Co-op Issues Across America" will be Kim Christiansen, general manager of the Nebraska Rural Electric Association, and Darrick Moe, president and CEO of Minnesota Rural Electric Association.
A major change in the annual meeting this year is that it will end one day sooner than in previous years. We'll wrap up the annual meeting Wednesday night, Oct. 9, with our annual meeting reception, banquet and final presentation of top MECA awards. Lower Yellowstone REA Board President Allen Thiessen will again emcee this event.
A special treat this year will be the singing of the national anthem to kick off our annual meeting by our very own Dan Gliko, a trustee at Marias River Electric Cooperative.
Various awards, including communications awards, will be presented at luncheons on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This year, at the request of our board, we've expanded the list of hotels for overnight accommodations during the annual meeting events. In addition to the Heritage Inn, other hotels with special MECA corporate rates are the Springhill Marriott and the Staybridge Inn & Suites. If you need the contact and rate information for these hotels, please call or email Tysen Sigglin of our staff. Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org. The phone number is (406) 761-8333.
